Fort McPherson Campground is located approximately 13 miles East of North Platte Nebraska, near the current Fort McPherson National Cemetery and on the site of the former Fort McPherson.  We are also near the route of the old Oregon Trail. As late as the 1950's a family was living in a Sod House that used to be located near one of our present day windmills.  Also, a Dugout was located nearby. There are several wallows in the area that were once used by buffalo to dust themselves.  A buffalo calf skull was found in one of them. Also, due to the unique soil types, there are several clay "cliffs" that have initial carved in them.  The oldest is from 1918.
